FAMILY LIFE

FAMILY LIFE/ MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER

Family forms the basic unit of the church and thus the most urgent needs of the growth of faith in this diocese emanate right from the family. We have witnessed so far that the growth of Christian family has led to more vibrant and pragmatic faith based within the community.

Family Life programme is meant to promote the essence of the basic unit of the community, family. It targets couples and assists them to understand their own relationship better and the relationships with children, grandparents et cetera.  It looks at mechanisms for enhancing Christian family life.

The family life programme has continued to create huge impact in the parishes since 2004. The programme is meant to provide an appropriate   and comprehensive family life education characterized by on-going formation of persons in building strengthening and reconstruction of the family unit.

The programme continues to strengthen several themes such as The pillars of Marriage: Self and person of the spouse; Communication within Marriage; Roles and expectations of Marriage; Preparation of Youth towards family life; Act of leaving/ Cleaving; Conflict management within family set-up; Family planning; HIV/AIDS: positive living; Family finances, et cetera.

Marriage Encounter is the movement started in 1990s for married couples (in the church) who support one another in family life, as well as encouraging more couples to embrace the sacrament of Matrimony. It focuses primarily on the relationship between husband and wife. It seeks to bring joy, peace and new energy into their relationship.

The programme is conducted via workshops/ seminars; retreats; talks (rallies) etc; targeting the married couples and the would-be couples (young adults) in the Diocese.
