  EMPOWERMENT AND LEADERSHIP

 This is one of the programmes in the pastoral office which focuses more on the livelihood of the Christians and building faith in our Diocese, for the last seven years Swiss Catholic Lenten Fund (Fastenopfer) have been funding this programme and successes of this has been witnessed in all over the Diocese. The Theme of this programme being Living in Faith we have been working closely with the parish priests and Parish pastoral Council which has enhanced team work within the programme.

Objectives:

  1. Deepen the Small Christian Communities Empowerment Programme in the parishes especially the weak parishes in the periphery of the Diocese.
  2. Give effective leadership skills to Sunday school leaders and Catechist.
  3. Promotion of Catholic social teachings and positive cultural values for parish leaders and the small Christian communities.

The programme has an Empowerment team on ground which comprises of 24 trained people this include priests, religious sisters and the Laity who normally go round the whole Diocese to meet different parish council and discuss with them on three thematic topics, this topics include;

1.      leadership

2.      Self-reliance

3.      S.C.C

This programme has helped the Christians understand and deepen their Knowledge on the Bible through sharing the word of God especially in the S.C.C meetings.

For the last one year we tried all our best to visit all parishes and we were able to;

1.      Mobilize and unite people to form S.C.C

2.      Assist several Prayer groups to become full S.C.C

3.      Held workshops and seminars in the parish level and also some in station level.

4.      Create awareness and the need to support the church.

In December  last year we had  to come together as a team to plan and evaluate all what we did and we came with new ideas and different approaches of the programme.

This year seems to be more organized and we hope to do better than last year.

Our co-partners have been very supportive to us both morally and spiritual and we have been journeying with them in our day to day activities. The programme now has a project officer in place who normally goes round the parishes to meet different S.C.C; this has helped us in monitoring and evaluating the programme.

Our Donor also donated to us a Motorbike which is used specifically for the programme, this has helped us in coordinating the programme effectively. The programme ends in December.
