Fruits of the Year of the Priests

As the year of the priests came to an end on 19th June, Catholic Diocese o Kitui had something to be proud of by ordaining two deacons to priesthood and also 3 seminarians who were serving as acolytes to diaconate in their home parishes in the month of June.

This colourful occasion was presided over by Rt. Rev. Anthony Muheria the Bishop of the Catholic diocese of Kitui with a procession from St. Augustine Secretariat to the Church - Our Lady of Africa Cathedral –Kitui.

The newly ordained priests were; Rev. Fr. Cyprian Kaleve from Kabati parish and Rev. Fr. Edward Mulwa from Mutune Parish and the previously ordained deacons Rev. Deacon Cosmus Mulu from Kabati Parish, Rev. Deacon Charles Musyula from Ikanga Parish and Rev. Deacon Daniel Mutia from Kimangao Parish.

In His Homily, His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Anthony Muheria, requested all the Christians to protect the faith of the Catholic Church and also to follow the example of the Ugandan martyrs’.

He also requested the newly ordained priests to seek help from the fellow priests. “Seek support from fellow priests, I count on you to reach each one of the Christians,” he said. At the same time, tehbishop announced where the newly ordained priests will be working: Fr. Cyprian Kaleve  - Mwingi Parish, Fr. Edward Mulwa – Boma Parish.

His Lordship also requested all the Kenyans to read and understand the constitution well and choose life.

“Just as Christians honour our Holy mother of Jesus, so, should all the mothers in the world live a respectable life and too respect the gift of being a mother.” He said.

While welcoming the newly ordained priests to KEDPA, Fr. Paul Mathenge requested them to think about their call and respect it. Acting Vocations Director, Fr. Benson Katua, urged that there is need of more priests in the Diocese and so in order to get them, there is great need to support P.M.C. and also the young ones to know and respond to their call wisely.

The Diocesan CWA chairperson, Ann Mwanza, requested all the priests to be role models to the young ones, and to the Christians; help and pray for the priests.

One representative from the ordained priests and deacons, Fr. Edward Mulwa, who spoke on behalf of his colleague, said that it’s not easy to become a priest but it’s possible. He also thanked their parents for giving them out to the church and all the priests for assisting and supporting them throughout the journey.
