Trocaire
is one of the ‘traditional’ donors of the diocese. It has been funding two projects in the
diocese i.e. support to governance and humanitarian programme under Justice and
Peace Section and Livelihoods and Disaster Risk Reduction under the Food
Security Section.Under the Justice and
Peace Programme funding has also come from the Lenten Fund Campaign which has
gone into some of the planning activities of projects and parish oriented initiatives. The structure of the project (Rooting
Human Rights in Communities to establish a human rights state) has changed from this phase (2009 – 2012) from focus on governance in
general to governance with a focus on devolved funds. This has also seen the project retargeting
its work in 3 constituencies (i.e. Kitui West, Mutito and Kitui South
constituencies) while another partner of Trocaire; Centre for Human Rights –
Mwingi will tackle the other constituencies. However the J&P office has pushed for the inclusion of the parishes
under the banner for Centre for Human Rights – Mwingi.
On
another front, the office of J&P has been engaged in raising awareness on
the constitution.This has also been
done to give our clergy especially priests, a better grasp of the issues within
the constitution and to articulate them to the people. It has also been an aspect of getting the
input of parishes in the issues affecting the development department as well as
decisions that we might make in implementation of projects.
Lenten
Fund Campaign 2010
This
year the Lenten fund campaign saw the involvement of priests in the planning
process.To date we have received
feedback from 3 parishes (Mutito KES 3590, Kamuwongo KES 15,000 and Migwani KES
50391) and Secondary / Primary Schools from Northern Deanery KES 11136.So far this cumulates to KES 83617 against a
backdrop of KES 181,348.50 done in 2009.We anticipate that with the rest of the parishes bringing in their
contributions, we will start seeing a process where fund raising for
self-sustenance in development can be achieved through our church structures. It is also a clear indication that ‘Together,
We Can’.
