The Health Department has continued to offer her services to the people in need. Her main activities go around promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative  to achieve full health of human being.

The year started with a lot of challenges after the phase out of the major partner for HBC/OVC Programme.  However, through the Graces of our loving father, a lot has been   achieved.

HEALTH UNITS REPORT.

Mutomo Mission Hospital.

  • Routine curative, promotive, preventive and rehabilitative services continued
  •  A Clinical officer and a nurse have been seconded.  They had left the facility and the hospital administrator could not  trace them.  Another lot of 12 nurses have been employed by CDF.  We hope that they will be retained in our hospital as per our request to the DMOH.
  • Fencing of the hospital has been done (wall fence)

Muthale Misson Hospital

  • Routine curative, promotive, preventive and rehabilitative services continued
  • A  nurse and a Pharmacist have been seconded, unfortunately they had already left Muthale before we received the communication.  We are trying to push for replacement of the two through KCS.
  • A letter has been sent to the Director of Medical Services requesting for a secondment of a Doctor for Muthale
  • Through Bishops office we received 100 bed sheets donation
  • Physiotherapy materials purchased
  • Purchase of the incubators.
  • Donation of washing machine from Little Sisters of St. Francis.
  • An interview of a doctor was carried out early this month on 7th April 2010.  The plan is to employ a Kenyan residential doctor.  He visited the hospital on Monday the 26th April 2010 and  will report officially on 1st June 2010.
  • Dr. Rilly from Singapore will be coming to Muthale for two weeks in June courtesy of His Lordship Anthony Muheria.

The nurse incharge has been seconded by the MOH (CDF)

St. Joseph’s Dispensary – Kavisuni.

  • Has really grown and offering many services and reaching many people than before
  • Started outreach at Masimba
  • 1 Nurse has been seconded by MOH (CDF)
  • Fencing of the unit has been contracted to the Polytechnic

Kamuwongo Dispensary.

Offering curative, promotive and preventive.

Nuu and Kimangao Dispensaries.

The Parish Priests have the report since the units are in low profile.

Nguutani Dispensary.

This dispensary since it’s opening  has faced a challenge of staff turn-over.  The unit is very potential for growth.  The maternity wing is on progress.  There is a Dr. Richard, Fr. Maanzo’s friend serving the community in the month of May 2010 and has brought with him an ultrasound machine and currently is the one using it to examine people but we are looking for somebody to continue the services after he leaves.  Other details will be communicated.  There is also an ECG machine which is not utilized.

HBC/OVC PROGRAMME.

·         Through GOAL also, 40 groups benefited with green houses.  See the attached list.

·         APHIA II Eastern extended the funding upto December 2010.  Support groups are as in the previous AGM report.

WAD 2009.

This activity was organized and celebrated in 18 strategic areas in the Diocese.  A part from health education, VCT services were offered to some centres reaching 1458 with counselling.  730 with testing and 23 who turned positive were referred for the support care.

LIVELIHOOD PROJECT.

This is a short term programme funded by Caritas Luxembourg through CAFOD on sustainable interventions after the CAFOD’s withdrawal.   The project ends on 30th  June 2010.   Below are the achievements:-

  • A group in  Nguutani of 30 members has benefited each member with 10 goats and another 34 have been trained on goats husbandry and are awaiting to receive the goats.  Nguutani groups is very big therefore modalities are being made how the rest will benefit from the goat project.
  • 30 members of Ngomeni received modern bee hives and trained on bee keeping and are yet to be registered as an enterprise.
  • 20 beneficiaries in Nuu Parish received modern bee hives and trained on the same
  • Mbitini OG/PLWHIV in conjunction with the Parish are constructing a pharmacy and the drugs already purchased in the  office awaiting completion.
  • Mutomo OG/PLWHI have been trained and their aloevera farms expanded with improved species of Alovera and  Seccud flora. Extraction machine and blender already purchased for the group. Registration of the group as an enterprise on the way.  The group will be producing Aloevera products eg soap, juice, shampoo and oil among others and sell to the community.  The group has been doing production in small scale therefore  with this boast its our  prayer that will produce more and support the OVC in their households.

NB:  These are four major projects in the community as IGAs therefore we are making a passionate appeal to you to support them.

SUPPLEMENTARY FEEDING PROGRAMME.

This programme benefited only 8 parishes namely

·         Boma  for elderly one as the other categories ie under fives and PLWHIV was covered for by WFP (MCH) programme, Kavisuni , Kanyangi , Ikutha (Kamutei)    Mutomo Parish(Voo), Nuu , Kimangao and Kamuwongo parishes.

The other 7 centers targeted under fives, PLWHIV, elderly and people with special needs.  This programme ended in April 2010 though Nuu, Kamuwongo and Kimangao Parishes are yet to receive their unimix supplies due to delayed procurement  but hopefully they will get their share soon.
