CMA 2008 Update report

1 Introduction

Catholic men are faithfuls who are practically active in faith. They may be limited by practicing all church doctrines but are recognized very much for their role in the Church.

2. Background

The history of men’s role in the Church is dated back to the beginning of the Church and this is seen clearly in the bible both in the Old and New Testament.

    • Old Testament Ref:     Genesis – Call of Abraham
    • New Testament Ref:    Acts. 16:1-7

 3. Target beneficiaries

The association targets all catholic men who are over 18 Yrs.

4. VISION, GOAL, MISSION AND OBJECTIVE

a.      The Vision

       Eternal life for humanity

b.      The Goal

To foster the union of Catholic men, promote the Catholic faith and collaborate with the church in evangelization.

c.       The mission

The mission of the association is the universal aim of the Church, that is, the evangelization and sanctification of humanity and the Christian formation of people’s conscience, in conformity with the laws of the Catholic Church.

d.      The motto

The proposed motto so far which has not been discussed fully is good family, Good Church, this can be amended.

5. Objectives

  • To bring together and unite catholic men
  • To evangelize the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
  • To promote Catholic faith and religious life amongst members
  • To provide means for cooperation amongst catholic men and expression of their collective opinions, views and decisions upon matters affecting Christian morality, family and civic life.
  • To participate in matters calculated to lead to the strengthening of Catholic Church including Christian Communities.
  • To promote education and Christian spirituality of Catholic men and their families

6. Role of men in the Church

  • Promote family values
  • Participating in church duties
  • Like women, men also have a role in organizing liturgy.
  • They also lead services in the absence of the priest.
  • They are active in terms of fund raising for the church
  • They are key in leadership in most of the Catholic Churches.

Constraints:

ü      Lack of commitment of some members back in the parishes which weakens the association.

ü      Lack of proper awareness as far as the association is concerned.

ü      Poverty which leads to inferiority complex thus withdrawal of membership hence registration of few members.

Way forward

v     Start fundraising from the station to the Diocesan level

v     Start awareness campaigns at the grass root. I.e

§         Visit to Parishes by Diocesan officials.

§         Visit to stations by parish executive.
