Kitui Prepares for St. Paul/Minneapolis Visit

The Catholic diocese of Kitui is preparing for a visit to the archdiocese of St. Paul/ Minneapolis later this year.

Thought the details of the visit are still at the planning stage, names of 10 suggested delegates have been forwarded to the bishop’s office.

According to the Vicar-general, Very Rev. Fr. Robert Mutui, the two week visitation is expected to take place between September 15th and October 20th, though the final dates are still being discussed by partners (Kitui and St. Paul/ Minneapolis)

Since partnering in August 2004, St. Paul and Minneapolis has visited Kitui two times (2005 and 2008), with Kitui visiting the American partner same number of times (2004 and 2006).

This global solidarity partnership that was facilitated by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has seen Kitui and St. Paul/ Minneapolis journey together in faith, sharing their ‘nothingness and fullness’.

Among the notable areas of sharing has been faith and cultural experiences, Prayer intentions, material wealth (including water project initiated at Nuu Parish in Kitui, emergency feeding programme that was carried in 2006 in southern parts of our diocese with support of St. Paul and Minneapolis under facilitation of CRS), among others.

The partners have also share gifts.

Meanwhile, the diocese confirms that a shipload send from Peoria, Illinois loaded with gifts for the diocese have arrived.

The ship was loaded with goodies also from Illinois as well as from our partner Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

According to the Very Rev. Fr. Robert Mutui, the ship has computers which will be given out schools, while medical equipment will be used at diocese’s Muthale and Mutomo mission hospitals.

The load that arrive late January also has clothes and other stuff which Fr. Mutui says that it will be distributed to the less fortunate.

“We are very grateful to our benefactors for journeying with us during our needy moments. May God bless them all!” said Fr. Mutui.

This is the second visitation from St. Paul and Minneapolis to Kitui since the two dioceses partnered in August 14th, 2004. The first visitation was in October 2005.

Kitui diocese has also visited St. Paul and Minneapolis twice; in 2004 and 2006.

Our extended family visitors will be hosted in five parishes, where they will be exposed to parish, family and liturgical life of the people in our diocese.

These parishes are Kimangao; Kabati; Mutito; Nuu and Ikutha, while the delegation’s lead person deacon Mickey Friesen will be hosted by Bishop’s Office.

During the visit also, it is expected that a live video linkage between kids at St. Michael Primary School in Kitui and St. Mark in St. Paul and Minneapolis will held, where the pupils will share about each other.

Also in the programme; our visitors will have the opportunity to visit one of our famous game parks, Amboseli to see the wild game, one of the rich tourist attractions in our country.

This partnership is based on global solidarity partnership initiative, and has been mediated by the Catholic Relief Services (CRS).

Through this partnership, Kitui and St. Paul/ Minneapolis have been journeying together to strengthen faith, Build closer relationships and even share their “fullness and nothingness”.

As a result of sharing with each other, St. Paul and Minneapolis is supporting a Food resource Bank Project in Nuu Parish that is aimed at making water available to the locals, while moving towards food sustainability in the area.

This is to be a five year project that will include constructing one earth dam a year, while starting livelihood/ hygiene projects around the constructed water points.
